Everyone loves their hairstylist, but really mine is the best. I think I have actually said that before, but it needs to be said again and potentially once monthly after that. Krysta ( basesalonchicago.com ) not only has the cutest salon, but she knows her stuff. She has brought me blonde and back, banged, bobbed and I even let her diffuse my curls. We both decided Beyonce did not look good on me. We were also both equally disappointed. Krysta texted me one wonderful Friday, when George just happened to be available to watch Christopher and asked if I wanted to come in for a Brazilian Blowout so she can try out her new products. Given that my hair is curly, frizzy and generally awful I jumped at the chance. Also I love hanging out with Krysta and spending hours talking nicely about people :). We documented the entire process and had the best time. Everyone in Base Salon Chicago is so much fun, the music is amazing and they have Rose!
Step 1: Wash. My hair needed to be squeaky clean and when Krysta was done it actually did squeak. Crazy. Also much needed since I hadn’t washed it in 7 days, I told you my hair is awful.
Step 2: Apply Product. I had a Keratin treatment a few years ago and this step was by far the worst. The chemicals sting your eyes terribly and you have to wear glasses or goggles. With Brazilian Blowout my eyes maybe watered for .25 seconds. I was pleasantly shocked and opted out of the glasses. It also smelled AMAZING.
Step 3: Blow Dry. Krysta and Chelsea blow dried kind of straight and I started wondering if the treatment actually worked because there was still frizz involved. They assured me that it is totally normal. Phew! Also I love getting the “Beyonce Treatment” at Base where two people blow dry my hair at once. I’m busy and loved to be pampered.
Step 4: Rose.
Just Kidding. Step 4: Straighten. This is where it gets tricky because the number of times you use the special straightener on the hair determines the result. There is so much more technology going on than just a chemical pulling your hair straight (yes that is what I thought this did). Tony, another amazing stylist, spent this step explaining the science to me while I geeked out. We opted to go for it and did the maximum amount. I’m not kidding how curly my hair is, and now no one will ever know :). It was super fast. To the point where I almost wanted to confirm that they actually did it right. I did not, because I trust Krysta with more than my life…my hair.
Step 5: Rinse. Masque. Blow Dry. Yes this is more than one step but it was the grand finale and nothing else exciting happened with my hair until the end.
The final product immediately felt smoother, silkier, prettier, straighter and more amazing all around than my natural hair. It has so much more fluid movement and I could not be happier. The first morning after was the first time I woke up with my hair still straight in my life. No kinks, no frizz and no hairline little curls. It still styles wonderfully and the real test was that after a wash (with the approved products below) it looked beautiful after air drying. There’s a little bit of Brazilian Blowout right for everyone that needs a change to their hair!
