I can't believe my two week Italian honeymoon is over!! It flew by! Before I knew it I was back at work staring at excel spreadsheets *tear. So I thought, what better way to relive it than by telling you guys all about it?! Lake Como - Bellagio Dave and I began our Italian adventures on Lake Como in Bellagio. Something I didn't really realize until I was doing research for our honeymoon is that Lake Como is pretty big, and there are quite a few towns to choose from when picking your hotel location. Lake Como is shaped like a pair of pants, and the town of Como is at the bottom of the left pant-leg. If you are taking a train into the area, like we did, then this is probably where you will be coming in to. From Como, Dave and I took a ferry to Bellagio (basically the crotch of the pants). We chose to stay in Bellagio because of the incredible views. Bellagio is where the lake splits, so the scenery is breathtaking. Where we … [Read more...]
Warm Weather Travel Outfit
There are a million posts online about what to wear when traveling, but they are almost always geared towards the colder months and destinations. When I was deciding what I was going to wear on the plane to Italy for my honeymoon, I knew I wanted two things: to be comfortable and to look decent when I landed. I thought up a lot of outfits that would satisfy one of those criteria, but I had a harder time finding one that did both. Then, I found this outfit! It's pretty simple, but I gotta say, I really do love it. I've paired some striped linen pants with a basic white tank top and floppy hat (to hide the plane hair). The linen pants were a lightweight alternative to shorts, which can be uncomfortable to travel in (meaning your bare legs don't touch the plane's scratchy seat). Note these pants are a little long, and I probably should have hemmed them before my trip. St. Lucia
Its my anniversary and Katie is getting married soon!! Our wedding dates will be three years and three days apart....I sense some joint anniversary trips in our future. Because who doesn't need an excuse to vacation with friends! Katie is planning on taking a fabulous honeymoon to Europe but my husband and I went a little more tropical with ours in St. Lucia. It was one of the most beautiful places I have been and I can't wait to go back. My husband and I love to embrace the culture of places we visit so we ventured off the resort a few times for hikes, zip lining and a fish fry. It was technically the end of rainy season when we were on the island so during the day we would get a light mist with the sun still beating down on us. It was perfection. Fun facts. The Bachelors, Juan Pablo and Jake Pavelka, proposed in St. Lucia. Jake did it at our very resort. Our marriage is having a little better luck than their engagements :) There's a rumor that Kim & Kanye stayed at the same … [Read more...]
Travel Blunders
My dad is an avid traveler, and has thankfully always brought my mom, brother, and myself along for the--sometimes very long, ride. Together we've traveled to 25 countries and counting! With that many trips, we were bound to run into just about every kind of travel headache. We've had lost luggage, missed connections, broken suitcases, been at the wrong airport, etc., etc. Here is a list of the 6 most common travel mistakes my friends and family have made: 1. Not traveling somewhere because you don't speak the native languageYou would be amazed at how easy it is to get around most places by just speaking English. If you are going to a popular tourist destination, like Rome or Paris, you will have no trouble finding people who can speak English with you. And even if you are traveling to a lesser-known area, you will be able to come up with creative ways to communicate to non-English speakers. In China, all of the menus had … [Read more...]
