After spending my honeymoon in Italy, and eating my weight in pizza, I now consider myself a connoisseur of pizza (if we are being honest though, I considered myself one before the trip as well =P ). Italian style pizza is definitely different than Chicago style. No deep dish in Venice! Instead, Italian style pizza is closer to hand tossed. The middle is very thin and gooey and is surrounded by a thick crust that crisps just a little in the wood-fired oven (see below for a picture of what I’m talking about). In short, it’s heaven on a plate. Naturally, I can’t fly to Italy every time I get a craving for this incredible pizza, so I did a little research and found a list of 5 pizza joints in Chicago that specialize in Neapolatin style pizza. (Special shout-out to Steve Dolinsky for doing the legwork of finding these hidden gems.)
