Juicing and Souping

Cleansing is probably one of the hardest things I have ever done for a few reasons. First, I love food.

Second, I don’t particularly love the texture of juices. One of the key reasons Katie and I are so close is our palate (my one year old is willing to try more diverse foods than we are). So, when my nutritionist suggested a cleanse to get back on track for summer I immediately asked ‘does a donut cleanse count?’ and she (shockingly) said no. She suggested a soup cleanse that I could get on board with. Three days, a juice for breakfast, soup broth for every meal and if you really needed a hard boiled egg for a snack. I was impressed with myself that I did not feel the need to snack and the soup was actually extremely filling. I made 2 different kinds of soup (chicken noodle – no chicken or noodles, and tomato) and ate them consistently for the cleanse. I lost almost 5 pounds (that I’m sure I’ll gain back) and felt wonderful at the end. Definitely the kick start I needed!  The added benefits were that my husband did the cleanse with me. At least for dinner since I couldn’t tell if he cheated at work 🙂 and I found a juice that I will actually drink! It forced me to try some new local places and textures and I ended up loving Harvest Juices in the West Loop.
