Do you ever buy something online and get it in the mail and it’s nothing like what you expected?
Haha ok I just laughed at that question too. Obviously that happens to everyone, but my point is that when it happens to you no one else can ever feel the pain you just experienced. You spent hours finding the perfect shirt, followed by at least a day of working to pay for it, followed by one week waiting for it to ship (because I don’t understand why everything cannot be Amazon Prime), followed by a week of trying to pick it up from your building package office until finally it is in your hands. You open the tape and try it on, even though you are not wearing the correct lipstick shade and jeans to do it justice. Then its awful and your pain is unbearable and you immediately ask this was free returns too, right?!
Well rest assured I do know your pain, but the opposite can also happen. There is hope!!
I ordered this adorable body suit (remember I am into those now) and opened my package and suddenly was extremely disappointed. The body suit fabric did not look like it would sufficiently shrink me down one size and the top fabric was not as soft as it looked on blondie (no offense Katie) in the picture. I begrudgingly tried it on and stared in the mirror extremely confused at how much I loved it. My husband (who loves me and also is very critical) loved it. I think the heavens parted. I showed it to Katie and her immediate response: KEEP THAT! Who am I to say no to the signs. I kept it, love it and plan to blog about it until it goes out style. Which will be NEVER. Kidding!
Here are my tips to make sure online shopping woes don’t happen to you.
1. Once you find the correct size in a brand you like always write it down. I know it seems like common sense but I can’t tell you how many times I dig through my closet trying to remember if I’m at 26 or 27 in that brand.
2. Try to shop from stores that offer the real size finder. You put in your go to brands and the size you know you are and it tells you what to order. It almost always works.
3. Be realistic. All websites display clothes on 6 foot tall girls who usually are not extremely curvy. If thats you, I’m jealous!! For me, I have to always think how short will this look once my curves hike it up a little or will that neckline be way too low on me. You know your body. Sometimes it takes some extra effort to remember you won’t look like the model, but you’ll still look amazing and you’ll like it so much more when you pick things you know can work.
4. Go crazy sometimes. If a store offers free shipping and returns and you’re on the fence I always say buy it. I have been surprised so many times by items I was on the fence about.
