Who doesn't love to Christmas shop? My only problem is if I add everyone I have to buy for and all of the amazing things I want to get them together it ends up costing a few months salary. To save ourselves from going broke my family and I have a few rules at Christmas. 1. Make the gift an outing. Every year my entire family goes to dinner and a play. Its a Christmas gift for everyone and we get to enjoy each others company at the same time. Life gets so crazy its nice to carve out time to spend together. Last Christmas we saw The Lion King. This year we will see Hamilton (in may). 2. White Elephant. My cousin hosts for both sides of her family every Christmas which adds up to over 15 adults and 8 kids. Instead of trying to buy for everyone we do a white elephant gift exchange. Everyone chooses a number and in order you pick a gift from the pile or to steal someone else's already opened gift. It can be tricky to find a gift that relates to a wide range of people but here are a … [Read more...]
Sideless Sweaters & Lace Up Shoes
My "sideless" sweater is the perfect way to be sexy during the winter. Its a great take on winter fashion and colors but still a way to show some skin. During the day I'll wear it with a full tank top underneath, but at night I go with a bandeau or crop and heels. It pairs with any pant you can imagine and I've personally worn it with leggings, jeans of every color (even pink) and a mini skirt. I love the high neck because it means no necklace. I can keep my every day necklace going and focus on accessorizing with a bracelet or cuff. My shoes are some of my new favorites. The lace up trend is not going anywhere soon. It gives more flare to your functional flats. I had a hard time finding a pair that I loved (that weren't over $500) and were also comfortable. When these came along I snagged them up. They are so comfortable I can run a mile in them and the gold accent on the heel makes them a little different than the typical pair you see on the streets. My Favorite Coat
My favorite Christmas gifts are the ones I chose for myself. I'm very Rachel Greene like that. My husband and I joke because I return everything he buys me. Our anniversary this year was the first gift I did not return. He did such a great job picking out the perfect earrings. About a week after he gave them to me I was digging through old iPhone photos and realized I had sent him the exact pair as a gift idea for my birthday 8 months earlier. We both forgot and yet somehow I still chose my own gift. It’s a skill! This coat was one of those amazing gift choices! I emailed my mom and husband a list of items I wanted just in case they needed some guidance. My mom, having the best taste in the world, ran right out and purchased the coat. I have been wearing it every winter for three years now. It is the perfect statement piece so I like to wear it with all black outfits. Not too difficult of a task since I own so much black. It also happens to be extremely warm! I do toy with the idea of … [Read more...]
Fair Isle Sweater
It's December, which means it's OFFICIALLY the holiday season!!! I love this time of the year. There is something so magical about it, especially in Chicago. Don't let my husband see this post, but I love the snow (he's cuban and hates the cold)! I searched for the perfect fair isle sweater for the season forever and just couldn't find what I was looking for. Everything was either way over budget, made of wool (ick, itchy), made of cashmere (lovely, but too $$), or weirdly cut (no boxy sweaters please!). I'm normally a pretty conservative dresser, but I thought it would be fun to pair this very traditional sweater with distressed denim and polished pumps. I have to say I love this look! I wore it the day after thanksgiving when my husband's family decorated the Christmas tree. You will see me rocking this outfit on repeat until February!
