My dad is a huge wine guy. He's in wine clubs, goes on wine trips to France, hosts tastings, etc. Growing up in a household that had wine every night for dinner, I was starting to feel a little embarrassed that I didn't know much about wine past whether I liked it or not. When I was home this past weekend I had my dad give me a lesson in wine tasting! I only like red wine, so that's all we tasted, but I thought it would be fun to share with you what I learned! When you get a glass of wine, you will first want to observe it's color. Is it a dark brown/red? Is any light getting through it? The color of the wine can indicate how heavy the wine will taste. Generally the darker the wine, the heavier the wine. After you have critiqued the wine's color, you should slowly tilt the wine to one side of the glass and bring the glass back to level. This allows you to observe the "legs" of the wine (i.e. the drops of wine that run down your glass). The wine's legs can tell you how much … [Read more...]
Henley and Jeans
My husband's winter wardrobe is FULL of henleys! He must be starting to rub off on me, because I found myself looking for a cute one to wear this year! I ended up finding this one at Abercrombie of all places. One of my girlfriends told me last year that they were re-branding and had a bunch of really cute clothes that were more appropriate for adults, and she was right! They always have sales too, which makes it easy to get a lot of different looks without breaking the bank! I snagged this henley when it was on sale, and only $15! I love the seam down the back, and the high cut of the shirt on the sides. It's also incredibly soft. Needless to say, I think this was a great purchase! The Leopard Flat
I think the best way to wear all black is with a pop. I usually add a pop of color in my purse or a scarf but I also think it’s the perfect way to do leopard tastefully. Adding a small bit of leopard pattern to a monochrome outfit makes the leopard pop and the outfit a little bit more fun. I opted for all black, which I don’t think comes as a surprise. My oversized comfy sweater goes perfectly with the paired down look I’m going for. I don’t typically do flats because I’m only 5’3” and I think I need the heels to elongate my curves but for some reason I was feeling them today, so I’m going with it! I like to think it’s because I found the perfect pair of flats for my taste. My problems with flats are: I’m short and curvy, so I need height to make me look thinner. I fixed this with tight jeans and a sweater that accents my thinner collarbone. I think my feet look enormous in flats. I wear a 7.5 which is average but for some reason every pair of flats I try on makes me feel like … [Read more...]
The Bomber Jacket
This trend takes me back to high school (which I love reminding myself was 10 years ago). I'm prettysure every girl I know had an Abercrombie & Fitch beige bomber with faux fur on the hood. This is officially the adult version that I'm allowed to wear at 27! Thank you Kim & Kylie! There are so many awesome bombers out there. I went with a dark olive green to break away from my typical black coats and jackets. I also was not adventurous to try the patterns even though I think they are fabulous. I wanted something trendy that would go with a few more outfits in my closet. This bomber is extra warm and perfect for fall to winter weather. I'm wearing it all of the time with jeans! Extra bonus. Nordstrom is currently price matching it for 40% off! Size the Look: Bomber Jacket 4 Shop the Look: Topshop MA1 Bomber Jacket I put together a list of my favorite bomber jackets at reasonable prices.
