Let me start this post with explaining that I have the best sister in law. She pays attention to everything I mention and then it somehow just pops up at Christmas or my birthday from someone in their family. My trench coat was one of those items. I can't remember if I was only dating my husband or engaged but this was the first time I realized that all gifts are mother in law and sister in law approved. I had mentioned to her on a shopping trip for sunglasses how much I've always wanted a classic trench coat and of course that Christmas one popped up under the tree. My Burberry Brit trench coat is a classic staple. They are super expensive (the Brit label starts around $600 and actual Burberry is over $1000) but they will never go out of style. I've been wearing my trench coat for 4 (or 5?) years and still get compliments on it. Its a class beige color with gold metal buttons and the classic button and tie pattern. If you're going to invest I suggest going the timeless route. Of … [Read more...]
Giving Back
Its that time of year where people start to give: gifts to each other, cans to food drives, money to charities at the stop light and time to volunteer for coat drives. It is so important to us that we donate our time, money and occasionally some extra clothes (not like we have too many of those) to charity because we recognize how lucky we are in our lives. While the fall and winter season is a great time to get involved I think anyone who's ever tried to volunteer to serve a thanksgiving meal can attest that its a crowded time to give. There are so many different ways to get involved all year long. I love getting to support a cause and wear cute clothes! The main way I get involved is by serving on boards. The time commitment is so small and serving comes with a lot of great perks, the most important of which is helping others! I am currently lucky enough to serve on the Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) Board through work and Children's Oncology Young Professionals Board outside … [Read more...]
Yummy Crab Salad
I try to eat healthy--it doesn't always work. Normally,my biggest set-back is I get tired of eating the same thing over and over. This recipe is unlike my other healthy recipes, and really helps break-up all the chicken and turkey recipes I tend to make. My mom found this recipe and sent it over because she figured my husband would love it, but we both ended up loving it! It tastes so fresh, and is great on crackers or just by itself! Here's the recipe:Ingredients:-16 oz of lump crab meat (Trader Joe's has this for $10!)- 1 pint of grape tomatoes cut in half- 1 diced avocado - 2 jalapeños diced- 1 1/2 cups of roasted corn kernels- 1/4 of a medium-sized red onion (diced)- Juice from 2 limes- 1 tsp of olive oil- Salt and pepper to taste For the roasted corn kernels, I used a frozen bag from Trader Joe's. Follow the instructions on the bag and cook the corn in the microwave. I did this first, and then placed the corn in the fridge so that when I mixed in the corn at the end it would … [Read more...]
Wear to Work White
I love this outfit for all fall work days! The sweater is comfy and the colors are so clean. I think the zipper dresses this high waisted skirt up. I love the embellishment. The shoes were an impulse purchase (oops!) but so comfortable. I've worn them to weddings and danced the night away. Size the Look: Skirt 2 | Sweater XS | Shoes 37.5 Shop the Look: Express High Waisted Side Zipper Midi Pencil Skirt | J Crew Factory Fisherman Crewneck Sweater | Christian Louboutin Senora Patent T Strap … [Read more...]
