Long flights are the worst!! I swear I can feel time slowing down when I board a plane. I’ve tried just about everything to pass the time, so here are a list of things I do to make long flights bearable.
- Books. This one is a given, but if you’re traveling somewhere new, reading travel books about your destination is a fun way to pass the time!
- iPad/Amazon Fire Tablets. Games, movies, books, you name it, it’s these devices have it all.
- Get up and stretch! This helps break up the flight for me. I try to get up once a hour and just walk to the bathroom and back.
- Sleep. Pack a scarf or sweater that you can turn into a pillow and sleep. I’ve bought a million neck pillows and haven’t found one I like as much as a scarf.
- Bring a water bottle. I get thirsty when I fly. If you bring an empty water bottle through security, the flight attendants will fill it up for you on the plane. The cups they give you are too small!
- Bring socks. In the summer, my mom always brings a pair of socks to slip on when she’s flying and wearing sandals. Her feet always get cold.
- Check out the movies on the flight. If you are on an international flight, check out what movies they have to watch. Normally there are a few good ones you can watch to kill some time.
- Crossword puzzles/ sudoku/ adult coloring books. Enough said.
- Pack snacks. Don’t be that guy who busts out a smelly can of tuna (your neighbor’s glare might kill you), but you can bring non-smelly snacks on a plane! Some of my favorites are gold fish, protein/granola bars, and trail mix.
- Last, but not least, pack a pen if you are traveling internationally. You’ll need it to fill out your customs form, and the stewardesses don’t have as many pens as there are passengers.
